Spam has been in the news a lot recently, what with reports of a massive reduction in email spam over the Christmas period, followed by a massive rise afterwards. Of the 107 trillion emails sent in 2010, 89.1% were reported to be spam. Now it is the turn of social media to hit the spam headlines with the publication of Sophos’ annual Security Threat Report which states that 67% of users say they have been spammed via social networking sites. While Facebook has acknowledged security issues and disallowed a feature which gave third parties access to personal data, increasing the security level of your passwords and being cautious about following links is ever more important. Some "friends" cannot be trusted!
